Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the lungs and respiratory system, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and lung cancer. At Wellsun Medicity, our pulmonary medicine department is staffed by a team of experienced pulmonologists who are committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients. We use the latest technology and diagnostic tools to accurately diagnose and treat respiratory conditions, and work closely with other specialists to develop personalized treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each patient. We also provide preventive care, such as smoking cessation programs and lung cancer screening, to help patients maintain optimal lung health. Our goal is to provide compassionate, patient-centred care and support to help our patients breathe easier and live healthier lives.

The services include treatment of Asthma, COPD, Chronic Respiratory Failure, Sleep Disorders, Interstitial Lung Diseases, Tumours and Cancers of the Lung and Chest, Allergic Disorders, PFT and Sleep disorders.

Pulmonary function test (PFT) is a complete evaluation of the respiratory system including patient history, physical examinations, and tests of pulmonary function. The primary purpose of pulmonary function testing is to identify the severity of pulmonary impairment. Pulmonary function testing has diagnostic and therapeutic roles and helps clinicians answer some general questions about patients with lung disease.

Sleep Studies

Sleep studies are tests that record the body activity during sleep. They are helpful in identification of sleep disorders. Polysomnography, a type of sleep study, is the gold standard to rule out obstructive sleep apnoea. If a home study does not find obstructive sleep apnoea, but the patient still complains of refreshing sleep and daytime sleepiness, an in-lab polysomnogram may be necessary to find other possible disorders.

Sleep studies can help diagnose or rule out:

  • Sleep-related breathing disorders, such as sleep apnoea
  • Sleep-related seizure disorders
  • Problems sleeping at night (insomnia) : caused by stress, depression, hunger, physical discomfort, or other problem
  • Problems with nighttime behaviours, such as sleepwalking, night terrors, or bed-wetting
  • Problems sleeping during the day because of working at night or rotating shift work. This sleep problem is called shift work sleep disorders.
